Hi, I’m Jessica Burke, most people know me as JB. I am a figurative artist and educator that has been teaching at the university level since 2005. I am an Associate Professor of Art and Coordinator of the Foundations Program at the University of North Carolina in Charlotte.

I have always been fascinated with mass media and I am interested in exploring various interpretations on the impact of popular culture on identity and gender.

My drawings have been published in highly competitive contemporary art publications that include Manifest’s International Drawing Annual (INDA) 13 and in North Light Book's Strokes of Genius 9: The Best of Drawing. I will also have work published in the 2nd Edition of the textbook, Art for Everyone, by University Press in January 2022. I was recently awarded a North Carolina Arts and Science Council Grant based on my digital media practice which reflects a dedication to drawing as a creative practice that is both innovative and responsive to cultural conditions.

I have had my creative work shown in more than eighty competitive group and solo exhibitions nationally and internationally that include the Mint Museum in Charlotte, North Carolina; the Florida State University Museum of Fine Arts in Tallahassee, Florida; the Toshima Gallery in Tokyo, Japan; the LuXun Academy of Fine Arts in Shenyang, Liaoning Province, China and the Kepco Plaza Gallery Museum in Seoul, South Korea.

My creative work is in private, public and corporate collections that include the City of North Charleston, South Carolina; Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP; GLAAD, New York City; the City of Savannah, Georgia; Seminole State College, Florida and the National Living Treasure Museum in Yugawara, Japan.
